The grounds

One of Purton House’s greatest assets are the extensive and beautiful gardens surrounding the property. Full of interest and intrigue, they make Purton House a truly special venue for your wedding reception, party or photo shoot.

The lawns roll from the house down to a large lake, where we have resident swans, and a boat house and rose temple. Mature trees surround the lawn - a magnificent copper beach, cedar of Lebanon and an ancient plain tree, where your guests can swing on the swing seat, then walk the hidden rose walk.

Next to the formal lawns are a walled garden and orchard providing fruit and veg for the house, a water garden with pond, wishing well and secluded seat.

Church Path

There is a path that takes you from the house through a white wedding gate (commissioned for the eldest of the 4 daughters who were married at the house), past a “rambling rector” rose to a door in the wall surrounding the property. This opens out directly to St Mary’s Church. For couples getting married or having a blessing in the church, the 2 minute walk from the church to the house is really quite special. Your bridal party would be able to follow you all the way from the church, to the welcome of your drinks reception in the house.

Games Lawn, Marquees and Event Space

We have a Games Lawn to the rear of the house which can be used for croquet, or we could set up a bouncy castle, coconut shy and giant jenga for your guests to enjoy at a summer wedding.

Food, family & farm

Surrounding Purton House are over 150 acres of organic farmland, farmed by daughter Rowie.

Where possible, Talia (another daughter!) uses the meat, veg and eggs from the farm to ensure the best quality ingredients for your special meal.
